Ethical Issues in American History
Cost:
$275.00
Description:
Embark on a profound, two-session journey exploring the most challenging moral questions in U.S. history, from the nation's founding to the present day. This discussion-based course examines pivotal choices faced by key figures and the nation itself: Should Jefferson have freed his enslaved people? Should the U.S. have accepted the Jewish refugees aboard the St. Louis? Should reparations be paid to descendants of the enslaved? Participants will engage in spirited, reasoned discourse selected from historical chapters in books co-authored by the instructor, retired University of Michigan professor David Harris. You'll discuss both historical and current public issues. This series is designed to prompt thoughtful reflection and develop ethical judgment while significantly deepening your knowledge of American history. A paperback copy of the source material will be loaned to all participants.
