Behavior is what we do. Culture is how we do it. Understanding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is to learn how to identify what makes up your own personal cultural identity, what makes up that of others, and recognize systems that affect how easily someone can perform their culture. It is from knowing this that we are able to have the capacity for rich communication between people and groups. Over the course of three 90-minute sessions, participants will learn what makes up diversity, how to incorporate different backgrounds and experiences, and how to balance those voices in an authentic way. This will be done by mapping your own cultural identity and building tools to have more effective exchanges within groups. Michigan Teachers interested in receiving 5 SCECHs for this class will have an additional 30 minutes of outside of class work.
