CourseGraphic Dive into a fascinating exploration of ethical issues from America's past, and examine how they resonate today. This discussion-based course centers on pivotal, real-life choices: Should Thomas Jefferson have freed his enslaved people? Should Susan B. Anthony have supported the 15th Amendment? Should the U.S. have accepted the Jewish refugees aboard the St. Louis? Issues are selected from historical chapters in books co-authored by the instructor, retired University of Michigan professor David Harris, which will be loaned for the duration of the course. Expect spirited, respectful discussions about these critical moments, along with current public issues. The main goal is to promote thoughtful reflection, reasoned discourse, and the development of ethical judgment while deepening your knowledge of American history.
