CourseGraphic Discover sailing this spring on beautiful Grand Traverse Bay. Novice and experienced sailors will enjoy learning the comprehensive essentials of sailing. Topics include: nomenclature, boat designs, rigging, safety, sail types, helmsmanship, upwind and downwind sailing, essential knots and lines, handling emergencies, navigation rules, and boat management in heavy weather. Text is included. This course is underwritten in part by America's Boating Club and is offered in partnership with America's Boating Club Grand Traverse Bay. In addition to the weekly classroom sessions, weekly on-water training sessions (3 hour sessions) will be held in May and June (weather dependent) with 3-4 students per session. These on-water training sessions will be scheduled with the instructor during the first few weeks of the class.

Please read:  NEW DATES: April 29-June 17 In addition to the weekly classroom sessions, weekly on-water training sessions (3 hour sessions) will be held in May and June (weather dependent) with 3-4 students/session. These on-water training sessions will be scheduled with the instructor during the first few weeks of the class. Classroom session held April 29-June 17. On-water training sessions in Elk Rapids will start May 27 and go through June 19. On-water training will be on a sailboat with 3-4 students at a time. Session to be scheduled at the beginning of class with the sessions typically held 1-4 pm or 5-8 pm with days of the week to be determined (usually Monday-Wednesday).
